Childhood[]
Violet was raised by a father who belonged to the Scribe Quadrant and a mother who belonged to the Rider Quadrant. Violet trained with her father to be a scribe throughout her childhood, but after his death (by cardiac arrest), her mother required her to enter physical training to become a rider.
“You’re the daughter of a rider… I let you finish your tutoring, but like I told you last spring, I will not watch one of my children enter the Scribe Quadrant, Violet.”
Violet has two siblings, Brennan Sorrengail and Mira Sorrengail. Both siblings were/are riders. According to the Archives, Brennan died when Violet was fifteen, during the Tyrrish Rebellion, when he and his dragon were struck down mid battle by Fen Riorson (father to Xaden Riorson).
“Your mother captured my father and oversaw his execution.” “Your father killed my older brother. Seems like we’re even.”
After Brennan’s death, Violet’s father began having cardiac episodes, and eventually died of a heart attack. Fen Riorson was put to death and the rebellion was believed to be thwarted.
Description[]
Violet has “pale skin, pale eyes, pale hair,” which General Sorrengail blames on the illness she suffered during her pregnancy, or being locked up in the library all day. Violet’s hair is brown at the roots, but fades to silver at the ends.
“You’re the smartest woman I know. Don’t forget that. Your brain is your best weapon. Outsmart them, Violet. Do you hear me?”
Violet is described as intelligent and astute. From her time training to become a Scribe, Violet learned a great deal about the history of Navarre. During Conscription day, and in multiple other stressful situations, Violet recited facts she’d memorized from the Archives to calm herself.
